Dholakia Foundation

The Journey of HK’s Social Welfare and other CSR accomplishments started with Hari Krishna Charitable Trust in 1996 founded by Mr. Savjibhai Dholakia and his three brothers, Ghanshyam, Himmat, and Tulsi Dholakia. In 2024, it expanded to become Dholakia Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Hari Krishna Group, with the aim of supporting and preserving the environment through charitable and conservation activities. 

Dholakia Foundation is a prominent organisation dedicated to Environment and Water Conservation activities. The Foundation has so far made commendable work of planting over 2.8+ Million Trees and developing 144 lakes across various regions of Gujarat and India under the Mission 100 Sarovar initiative. The foundation adheres to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) guidelines as defined by the United Nations, aligning each of its initiatives to these principles.

The #Mission100Sarovar initiative proves the foundation’s unwavering commitment to sustainability: it not only provides clean water and sanitation facilities to water-deprived areas but also prioritises climate action and preservation of the biodiversity of the surrounding areas.

In addition to its conservation efforts, the Dholakia Foundation is also contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The foundation is actively fulfilling 17 SDGs, with a focus on goals 4 (Quality Education), 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 13 (Climate Action), 14 (Life Below Water), and 15 (Life On Land).

The foundation’s initiatives, such as providing scholarships to underprivileged students, promoting sustainable water management, and reducing carbon emissions, align with these SDGs and contribute towards a sustainable future. The Dholakia Foundation’s holistic approach to social welfare and environmental conservation has been benchmarked as an example of how businesses can prioritise sustainability and social responsibility.

In recognition of this social works, founder Savjibhai Dholakia was conferred with the Padma Shri award by the Government of India in March 2022. It is the 4th highest civilian award.

In March 2023, the Dholakia Foundation organized the first ever 3-day event to recognize the Padma Awardees of 2022. Over 30 awardees graced the event.

The plan to create 75 new lakes was unveiled that day, and  the groundbreaking ceremony was set to take place for the first 5 lakes.

Check Dam Foundation Laying Ceremony was held for five crucial lakes in Luvariya, Gujarat, which was attended by the President of India and the Governor of Gujarat, among others. The construction of these check dams improved water management in the region and addressed long-term water scarcity issues. The project received commendation from the Governor of Gujarat and the 14th President of India, who encouraged continued gatherings of Padma Awardees. ‘Till date, Dholakia Foundation is committed to improving water scarcity, supporting agriculture, and conserving natural resources.


Our Initiatives

Skill India Incentive Ceremony (SIIC)

Skill India Incentive Ceremony is a unique Loyalty Program for HK employees was formed in 2014 with the revolution in the world for giving bonuses to employees. It landed on global news all over the world as a total of 1277 HK Group Employees were gifted 207 Houses, 500 Cars (Fiat Punto) and 570 Kisna Diamond Jewellery (Special Edition) in 2014. In 2016, 1665 employees qualified for this loyalty bonus. 

HK has gifted 4,600 employees with cars, houses, and jewelleries.

In 2018, HK hosted a Skill India Incentive Ceremony as a part of the HK’s loyalty bonus and gave incentives to approximately 1,700 diamond artists and diamond engineers in the form of cars and fixed deposits. Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendrabhai Modi, handed over car keys to the employees in New Delhi and gave his warm blessing to over 25,000 family members back in Surat at HK Hub through a live video conferencing.

Water Conservation Program
  • Constructed Check Dam and Farm Ponds to provide irrigation facilities to the village area farmers 
  • Hari Krishna Sarovar, a huge lake (sarovar) spread over 250 bighas of land with 20 ft. depth and 500 ft wide, has been built at a location between Lathi and Akala village in Saurashtra, Gujarat
  • Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated “Hari Krishna Sarovar” on his birthday, 17 September 2017
  • By the end of 2022, 111 Sarovars have been constructed, benefiting 20 villages and more than 200,000 farmers by storing 13 billion litres of water spread over 18 km. To date, a total of 144 lakes have been constructed.
  • This massive water conservation projects is enlisted as an SDG Action global initiative and published by United Nations’ Department of Economic and Social Affairs
  • Participated and contributed to the “Swachh Bharat Mission” through cleanliness drives. Each year’s marathon organized by HK, the proceeds go to the Clean India Mission, thereby  accelerating the achievement of this national program’s goal.

Going beyond lake construction…

The HK Group’s efforts on Water Conservation did not end in constructing hundreds of water-supplying lakes, it also raised massive water conservation and importance awareness as it collaborate with the Government of Gujarat for the first ever Jal Utsav (Water Festival) in Amreli District, Gujarat, last December 2023.

Jal Utsav was inaugurated by  Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Bhupendra Patel and the Hon’ble Governor of Gujarat Shri Acharya Devrath Ji, and culminated by Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey, India’s Minister for Environment.

The 10-day water festival participated by more than 125,000 local and international water advocates featured dialogues on water and different kinds of amusements such as Water Sports, Serene Lakeside Tents and Café, Horse and Fountain Shows, Carnival, Kisna Nature Park, Hot Air Balloon Rides, and Paramotoring.

This record-breaking initiative is well-aligned with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision for sustainable development and environmental consciousness lifestyle under the Mission LiFe. Mission 102030: Afforestation and Tree Growing Program

Under the banner of Mission 102030 of the Dholakia Foundation, the HK group is the lead contributor of this long-term program by embedding this environmental conservation efforts to the business.

Making the most of the global tree-growing movement, the Dholakia Foundation propels a promising initiative to grow 10 million trees by the year 2030 to offset the environmental challenges posed by deforestation and carbon emissions. Through innovative strategies and wide-ranging participation to embody the “right tree, right place, and right community for the right reasons” principle, Mission 102030 aims to expand the world’s canopies, rejuvenate ecosystems, sequester carbon, and create a lasting impact on the global environment.

Mission 102030 has a multi-stakeholder approach aligned with the Mission Green Gujarat and anchored on the profound conviction that every individual carries a responsibility of safeguarding our planet for future generations, one tree at a time.

Education Program

Dholakia Nirman Community of Dholakia Foundation is an open learning community that encourages self-directed learning. It provides a superior educational environment tailored to the needs and interests of children, teachers, and parents, fostering independent, responsible, and sensitive citizens. DN is an alternative to mainstream schooling aimed at educating the heart, hand, and head to create a happy and democratic world.

  • HK Group regularly provides school supplies and subsidizes school fees of its employees’ children and other underprivileged children.
  • HK Group provides scholarships to nearly a thousand needy students investing close to 8,000,000 INR for educational grants to date.
  • Awards and incentives program in recognition of outstanding and achiever children of HK employees.
  • Distribution of uniforms and school supplies to the students of Government Primary Schools in tribal remote areas.
  • HK Group set up and maintains Hari Krishna Library to provide lifelong access to diverse learning resources to over 2,000 books which has benefited over 40,000 students and citizens and counting.
  • Beyond student learners, adult learners’ training is also periodically provided to Principals and Teachers through training programmes for the improvement of the quality of education. To date, over 7,000 Principals and Teachers of various districts of Gujarat state have been trained.
Health and Wellness Program
  • Year-round Health Camps of HK Group include Health Camp, Wellness Camp, Blood Donation Camp, Yoga Camp, and Meditation Camp, among others,  to maintain its employees’ optimum physical and mental health
  • HK Group has a free mediclaim policy and death insurance policy for every employee
  • HK Group ensures the work safety of its employees by making it mandatory to wear helmets while riding a two-wheeler vehicle
  • HK Group institutionalised a “No Tobacco Policy” for all its employees
  • Organizes “De-addiction” mission, AIDS prevention awareness programs, and “thalassemia diseases” awareness programs.
  • Medical Mission of providing free medical treatment camps for underprivileged persons
  • Annual religious tours for Haridwar Pilgrimage for Hari Krishna Group employees’ parents, and for employees every 3 years. 
  • About 4000 employees participate in the annual marathon for a cause every year.
Capacity Development Program
  • Institutionalised training program and set up a conducive auditorium and free training facilities for various capacity-building and social activities.

  • HK Group has organised various development training programs for government employees and government officers. To date, 5000 Police Staff and Officers and about 1000 Class I and  Class II grade Officers went through a series of development training programs.
  • Various activities conducted on “Traffic Awareness” in partnership with the Police Department.
Mass Wedding Ceremony

In 2023, Hari Krishna Group accomplished yet another significant milestone in their renowned social initiative: The Mass Marriage Festival all the management team takes part in its employee’s wedding ceremony. Over the past decade, the company has successfully organised mass wedding ceremonies with a total of 521 couples.

This year’s Mass Marriage festival was graced by Chief Guest Praful Pansheriya, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, while in 2022, Governor of Gujarat, Acharya Devvrat Ji, was the Principal Guest of Honor.

Women empowerment

The campaign for women empowerment aims to develop women’s independence and help them achieve success. Through its women’s empowerment project, HK assisted more than 200 women in securing jobs and provided them with the necessary training to improve their skills and employability.

HK put emphasis  on supporting women’s growth and providing equal opportunities. HK understands the serious nature of women’s safety concerns, hence, organisation prioritises it. In addition, as part of HK’s efforts to promote road safety, HK Group handed over driving  helmets to 6000 women to encourage them to promote safety in two-wheelers riding.
